GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD

FARM-GIN REGISTRY

Registration for Farm Projects
-worldwide-

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed by leading standard setters to define world-wide recognised requirements that ensure the certified organic status of textiles, From harvesting to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing to labelling, the GOTS certification both provides a credible assurance to end consumers and enables raw material producers, processors and manufacturers to export their organic fabrics and garments with one certification accepted in all major markets.

Are you an organic
fibre producer?
e.g. a farm project manager
Are you a Certifier for GOTS-certified Gins?

We are happy to announce that we are opening our GOTS Farm-Gin Registry to farm projects worldwide. If you want your organic cotton to flow into the GOTS supply chain, you are required to register at the GOTS Farm-Gin Registry.

Likewise, only registered input material may be used on outgoing Lint Cotton Transaction Certificates.

About GOTS' raw material & gin regulations

The comprehensive and strict requirements of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) ensure transparent and traceable processing for organic textiles from field to finished product - with firm restrictions on raw material, a clearly defined set of social and environmental criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

To further advance the integrity of organic products, GOTS is introducing a compulsory Farm-Gin Registry for all farms and farm groups whose certified raw cotton enters the GOTS system. The registry will be implemented progressively, starting in India. Producers are asked to provide their harvest volumes together with information on the buying gin.
To protect the supply chain, raw cotton is not allowed to travel more than 500 km from the farm to the certified gin, and there will be more unannounced audits on gin-level.

These new requirements are added to the numerous checks and balances which are already performed throughout every processing stage. Seed cotton entering the GOTS supply chain is tested for the presence of genetically modified organisms according to the applicable ISO protocol. Certifiers conduct further testing (such as pesticide residue) and are fully authorised to reject material that does not meet GOTS requirements. Additionally, before certification bodies issue a Transaction Certificate (TC), GOTS requires that a thorough assessment takes place, including a plausibility check in the form of volume reconciliation.

For further information on the criteria please visit the GOTS website.

Information for Farm Projects

We are calling Farms, Farm Groups and other Fibre producers for registration. The first registration step is to REGISTER YOUR FARM.

Farm projects are invited to register all their fibre produces on the registry.
Organic cotton producers are required to register and submit proof of their certification (Scope Certificate), provide details of their harvested cotton volumes (organic and in-conversion) and name the buying gins. The provided data is used to build a comprehensive registry linking organic cotton producers and their receiving gins. This registry plays an important role in protecting the integrity of the cotton journey from farm to gin.

Any raw cotton entering the GOTS supply chain needs to be duly registered by the producer farm project. If you need assistance during registration please don't hesitate to contact us.

Information for Gins and Certifiers

With the implementation of the Farm-Gin Registry, only registered raw cotton will be allowed to enter the GOTS supply chain. Outgoing GOTS Transaction Certificates may only be issued for such lint cotton where the input raw cotton's origin can be traced back to the producer on the Farm-Gin Registry. Ginners are advised to inform producer farms / farm groups of these changes should they encounter any unregistered input material, or contact us via email.

Certifiers of GOTS-certified gins are required to USE THE REGISTRY before issuing Transaction Certificates.
